This World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2022 we discuss some quick ways you can improve health and safety in the workplace. We talk about updating risk assessments to implementing automation software...

Conduct or update risk assessments

The first task to improving health and safety in the workplace is to update any and all risk assessments. Risk assessments can include:

  • Fire safety
  • Slips, trips and falls
  • Working at heights
  • Mechanical equipment

Having up-to-date risk assessments is crucial to ensuring the safety and security of your workplace and employees. As equipment and seasons change, so do emergency procedures and risk prevention.

Schedule tasks and inspections

A quick and easy way to improve health and safety in the workplace would be to automate manual tasks such as inspections. It is crucial to inspect hazards and equipment to ensure they are safe however oftentimes these processes can fall through the net. Automating tasks and inspections ensures equipment and hazards are being checked regularly and teams are accountable.

Educate

Lay out the foundations of health and safety for your team and employees. Education is a fantastic way to ensure everyone is on the same page and knows exactly when and where to go in an emergency.

If you have team members actively checking for hazards, it is important they understand key safety requirements and how & where to log data.

Train

Similarly, it is beneficial to provide adequate training to team members and employees on the basics of health and safety. More intense training can be delivered to team members who are:

  • Fire marshals
  • Maintenance & Facilities managers
  • Office manager

Keep records

Finally, keeping records of inspections, issues and investigations will help you prevent future incidents and provide peace of mind. Paper-based record keeping can be effective however it might be time to look into updating paper-based processes to streamline information and store data securely.
